Drawing ellipses accurately?

I’m drawing this: http://www.seriouswheels.com/2006/2006-Chevrolet-Corvette-Z06-LS7-V8-Engine-Cutaway-1280×960.htm double this size, and I’m having problems getting the ellipses accurate. I am using a grided paper, and I have 3 different french curves. I’m using a 7H pencil, on a 2 foot x 3 foot sized vellum sheet.
