I have a 2002 chevy camaro ss with no mods. I have a friend with a 1985 corvette which is also stock. I was wondering if I could beat him in the 1/4 mile. I don’t really want to race him unless I’m sure cuz I’ll never hear the end of it if he wins.

Keebah, Your SS does have mods done to it. If it is a true SS a company outside of Oshawa took the Z28 and put in stiffer shocks, sway bars, added a 6 or 8 element breather (can’t remember which verses the 2 air filter intake on the Z28. An upgraded ECM with a chip The stock Z28 had 305 hp engine,the Vette has the first introduced ‘tuned Port Injected engine which upgraded it to about 250 Hp. I have an Eldorado Touring Coupe that could beat the stock Z 28 but never lined up against an SS which either Car &Driver or Road&track gave it a 0-60 rating right up there with the 2002 Vette ( both were 6 spd but on the top end the auto was the fastest. A friend of mine beat an 85 Vette with his Impala SS 1996 and it was rated at 260 Hp and weighed about 500 lbs more. So if ya have a true SS( look at the breather intake for all those air filters and change them so it breathes right and you will smoke ‘em in a 1/4 mi. Now I don’t know if your SS is still speed limited by the computer cause the Vette isn’t but top end on the Vette was about 145-150.If yours is a true SS you should be able to hit 160+mph/. Go to the library and check out back issues of these 2 magazines for performance listed in the back of the issues. I do remember about the SS Camaro though. What the heck, even if ya lose look at what ya lost too , a Vette so no face / honor lost on your part. One thing in your favor also is you probably have traction control on that Camaro which won’t let you sit and spin where as the Vette doesn’t
