Do you think or armed forces should or should not be smaller? I honestly think we should stop all overseas expeditions and follow the example of Sweden with Visby type class Corvettes as our main force and a small but professional army and air foce that protects our island. We are not a global power anymore no matter how much we want to pretend we are, isn’t it about time we accepted this? Whilst I’d love for us to have Trident nuclear submarines and the new Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers we’re fooling ourselves, a small force that defends our islands is enough now, we shouldn’t play world policeman.

No I think we probably need around 120,000 strength just in the army alone, and I consider that we should be able to deploy forces anywhere on earth that we need to in order to provide protection for our worldwide interests and ‘occasionally’ assisting our allies where necessary. We should have more special forces such as the SAS and SBS – a lot more! I would like more marines and paratroopers available too. Naval and Airforce strength has been cut right to the bone such that we cannot even provide enough support for our own ground troops in the way of helis and air-strike cover, and we have been forced to use the USAAF for aerial cover in present recent conflicts. So what are we supposed to do if we end up in a fight and the yanks aren’t there to provide cover? We only need another Falklands ‘style’ war to kick off again, and we wont at present be able to kick butt like we did in ’82. So we need to remain strong and indeed build up even stronger.

The world is getting to be a dangerous place and we have to be ready to do battle if we have to.
