I have an MK5 gti and it has the DSG transmission which is the fastest shifting transmission in the world, and I would like to drop in into a corvette I am about to purchase. Is that possible if I make it the same gear ratios as the vette? And could I do this to both the z06 and the regular vette? The DSG can handle the extra HP and TQ because they put it the the w12 engine cars, audis, lamborghinis, and Bugattis, just all with there own special names. So the question is, can i do it? Thanks.
Hey man, when i was at this vw/audi car show, the VW GTI W12 650 had a dsg and my dad who had the audi a8 had a transmission exactly like the DSG but was called s-tronic or something, but exactly alike. And you can adjust the transmission to handle the torque. How do you think they built the transmission for the vette? it can handle the torque. But thanks for your input.

The DSG in your car does not have the same transmission/clutches that are in the other cars you mention. The torque of the Chevy V8 would destroy it in no time at all. In addition, a GTI is a front wheel drive car, so mechanically it wouldn’t work anyway. There is no W12 car with the DSG either, that engine has only been in the A8, VW Phaeton and Bentleys, all with automatic transmissions. The V12 in the Murcielago is not the same engine, and the automanual in that car is not the DSG.

So the answer is no, you cannot. The Corvette is available with a 6 speed automatic with paddle shifters, although mechanically different than the DSG the experience is very similar, and it’s as close as you’ll get in a Corvette.

EDIT – the W12 GTI is not a production car, just a show car.

The S-Tronic and Porsche Tiptronic are not the same as the DSG, they are automatic transmissions that have a manual mode, which the Corvette offers. Mechanically the S-tronic and the DSG are completely different, the DSG has a clutch (actually two) like a manual, the s-tronic does not, it has a torque converter like an automatic, because it is an automatic, but one that offers you manual control. Chevy already offers that in the Corvette, the automatic option includes manual capability with paddle shifters just like the s-tronic in the A8. Likewise, the R-tronic in the R8 is an automatic transmission with manual shifting capability.

No need to reinvent the wheel here.

Also, you can’t just “adjust the transmission to handle the torque”, if you think the DSG in a Bugatti Veyron shares any load bearing parts with the DSG in a GTI, you’re mistaken. Everything, the clutches, the gears themselves, are all much heavier duty than in the lesser cars.
