I need some recommendations for a new convertible?


I currently own a 2001 Sebring Limited Convertible that I have really enjoyed. I particularly like the styling. I don’t like the maintenance history. I am contemplating replacing the car with another convertible, but cannot decide which one. I’ve looked at a Mustang (a young person’s car – I’m 60), Corvette, BMW Z4, another Sebring (I like the self-trimming hardtop), Jaguar XK8 (my favorite so far, but I haven’t won the lottery), and even the 2 seater Pontiac. I sure would appreciate anybody’s comments on styling, maintenance, performance, or any other comments on currently available convertibles.

350 Z is a fun little convertible… good power, 2 seater though. But it is a nissan, you know that thing will have little to no maintenance. stay away from the chrysler. you could get a bmw 3 series convertible, volkswagen has a decent looking one… although it will be expensive if anything breaks. Toyota solara is a nice looking one… again, its a toyota, should have little to no maintenance. You got my vote for the corvette, no doubt it was the best on your list. just dont get one of the tiny ass sissy cars (miata)

One of the most common errors people make when talking about the Corvette Sting Ray is to confuse it with the 1968-1982 Stingray. The C2 or second generation Corvette Sting Ray (1963-1967) is definitely different from the C3 or third generation Corvette Stingray. The first difference is that Sting Ray is spelled differently for the third generation car! The C2 Sting Ray was the creating of Bill Mitchell, a GM styling chief.

While the interior of the Sting Ray had the classic double cockpit of earlier Corvette cars, they were improved for the C2 Sting Ray With the Sting Ray the first hard top coupe became available as well as a two piece window design for the rear of the car. The new window was supposed to help make the central raised parts of the hood more visible. The two piece window design was later removed because it actually restricted visibility out of the rear of the car.

As with all other Corvette cars, the Sting Ray was made from fiberglass panels that are affixed on a steel ladder frame. An additional new feature that was introduced with the Sting Ray was dual pop-up headlights. These newer headlights made the car unique and stylish. The lights also offered aerodynamic efficiency unlike any other car before it.

The C2 Sting Ray brought many more updated and cutting edge features for its time including the optional side-mounted exhaust, no trunk lid as access could be had from behind the interior seats and a power protrusion on the hood that was wider for those Corvettes with big block engines. Also, the convertible top could fold away when it wasn’t being used and could be stored under a panel behind the driver’s seat. If desired, a customer could get his Sting Ray with a hard top for a different option.

Speed and power enthusiasts had much to look forward to with the C2 Sting Ray It offered customers three engine choices including the 327, 396 and 427 CID. The car’s horsepower ranged from 250 to 435. Drivers were also able to be the first to experience the first independent suspension in a Corvette as well as 4-wheel disc brakes.

While the specs for each C2 Corvette Sting Ray vary, any educated car enthusiast can tell you that these cars are a must for collectors. Even if you’re not a collector, you should have the experience of driving a Corvette Sting Ray Once you have, you’ll never forget it!
